Chat With Other Baby Signers!
The folks at Sign with your Baby (Joseph Garcia's
organization) have aded another great tool to their
website: A discussion forum for baby signers across the miles. The site is broken into a variety of
helpful sections with something for everyone. You
can pose questions to the Sign with your Baby staff
and/or other parents and workshop presenters.
Forum topics include: News and Announcements,
Beginners Information, Ask an Expert, Signing in
Childcare, Signing for Children with Special Needs,
Signing in Bilingual Settings, Interact with
Presenters, and General Topics. This is a great
place to research questions, post new questions
and interact with others who share your enthusiasm
for signing with perverbal babies!

This month
our resource spotlight is on the Early Sign
Language Series Board Books published by
Garlic Press. There are four books in the series:
Signs for Pets and Animals, An Alphabet of Animal
Signs, Food Signs, and First Signs. Each 28 page book is $6.95. The set of four sells for $25.00.
The basic vocabulary covered in these books
enables you to easily practice and reinforce Signs
while you read and sing to your child. Children
love the pictures in these books, and since they
are made of sturdy material they will stay in good shape for a long time! Before you know it, your baby will be pointing at pictures and showing you the signs to go along with them!

Success
Story of the Month

Graham, son of Kelly and Randy
Kelly attended a workshop in October with her
son Graham, who was 14 months old at the time. Although Graham showed an interest in watching adults do the signs, he was not exhibiting any interest in trying to sign himself. The breakthrough occurred when we practiced
the sign for 'light' in class. Graham was very
excited about the word 'light,' and kept pointing
to the lights to show us he knew what we were
talking about. We showed him the sign for 'light'
several times, and then he repeated it back to us
right there in class! He did it several times and
seemed so pleased with himself and with all of the
attention he was getting for doing the sign!
Kelly reported in late November that Graham is now
doing several signs: more (he started by
doing it with one finger into his palm, but now does it the correct way), all done (he uses it for when he's done in his high chair, in the tub, in the swing, etc.), doggie, cheese, banana, elephant, bear
cow, and apple!
Kelly says the whole family is having a lot of fun
with signing! Hooray for Graham and his family!
